ABOUT NATHAN

My name is Nathan and my pronouns are he/him. I offer a safe, inclusive, welcoming & diverse space in person, online or over the phone. I welcome clients from all backgrounds & identities. Intersectionality is a core framework I use as our overlapping parts of our identity are core to who we are. I believe it is important to work from an intersectional lens, because if we are not seeing all of the clients intersections, we are not really seeing them at all. I understand the importance of how these parts of ourselves are an integral part of who we are and how we operate in the world as my own intersectional identity is formed from various marginalised groups, including being mixed race & neurodivergent. I have further specialist training working with gender, sex & relationship diversity (GSRD) through Pink Therapy and studied with them for over 2 years resulting in advanced accreditation as a gender, sex and relationship diversity therapist. Some areas I cover are:

  •    Transgender, non-binary and gender diverse identities

  •    Intersectionality

  •   Intimate partner violence & minority stress

  •   Understanding Kink / BDSM

  •  Working with sex workers

  •  Shame & internalised oppression

  •  GSRD relationships

  • Autism & GSRD

(This list is not exhaustive but gives you an idea of areas I can work with)

I offer long & short term therapy options & work at a pace you feel comfortable with. The most important ingredient to therapy is the relationship; so I like to get to know my clients so they can build trust in me. It can be a scary prospect talking to someone you don't know. I am trained integratively, which means I draw from different modalities, however I don't use technical jargon and have a relational approach. I am generally client lead, meaning that we focus on areas you want to bring to sessions. I appreciate sometimes that can feel overwhelming, so we can talk in partnership about how best to approach sessions

Since 2007 I have been in a variety of supporting roles including working with issues such as homelessness, drugs, alcohol, offending behaviour, mental health issues, gender identity, sexuality and have worked in the criminal justice system for almost a decade with victims of crime. I was a hate crime lead, trained in restorative justice and was part of the Police national LGBT network to enhance understanding not only with the public, but within the organisation. I have worked since 2016 as Counsellor with several organisations including young people's charities, City College Peterborough and Thorpe Hall hospice as an associate therapist.

Within my private practice I offer one to one counselling either for 50 or 80 minutes in person, online or over the phone. I am also trained in group work which I deliver regularly and deliver training sessions on Trans and gender diverse identities and Unconscious bias, intersectionality and privilege to organisations who request these or to mental health professionals and therapists.

I am a registered member of the BACP & advanced accredited gender, sex and relationship diversities therapist with Pink Therapy. I have indemnity insurance and hold a DBS. I also attend supervision monthly (or more) to ensure I am practising ethically and for my own professional development.

I have been in the clients seat and appreciate how difficult it can be to reach out & ask for support. You've made the first step just by accessing my website. I'm extremely passionate about my work & walking alongside my clients during their difficult times. If you would like to know more about the therapy I offer please do get in touch for more information or for a pressure free brief chat.
